Today, around 12 pm, a dying dog was discovered in the KHS parking lot, left abandoned and helpless. A kind-hearted individual, dropping off wish list donations, noticed the poor creature and immediately alerted the staff. The rescue team quickly rushed him to our Veterinary Services department, where his painful journey began to take a turn.
Upon arrival, it was clear that the dog, whom we named Ethan, was in severe distress. He was so weak that he couldn’t even lift his head. Every breath he took was labored, and his body appeared to be on the brink of shutting down. He was the thinnest dog we had ever seen that was still alive—his body weighed only 38 pounds, far less than the 80 pounds he should have weighed. His skin hung loosely over his bones, and the outlines of every rib, spine, and hip bone were visible. His emaciated body had resorted to extreme measures, using up every last bit of energy to survive.

In addition to his frailty, Ethan’s body was covered in filth, caked with feces and urine. The signs of neglect were glaring, but we were determined to help him. We immediately started working to stabilize him, wrapping him in heated blankets and administering warm IV fluids to help him regain some warmth and hydration. The first step was to make him comfortable and ensure his body could hold onto whatever life was left.
As we worked on Ethan, it became clear just how dire his situation was. His dehydration was severe, and his body had almost no fat or muscle left to support his vital functions. His extreme weight loss was heartbreaking, but his will to live was undeniable. We did everything we could to give him a fighting chance. Ethan was bathed to remove the filth that had accumulated on his skin, and he received a thorough examination to address his internal and external health needs. It was going to be a long road to recovery, but we were ready to give him the care and attention he desperately needed.

Days passed, and with each passing hour, Ethan’s strength began to return. Slowly but surely, he started to gain some weight and his once lifeless body began to show signs of recovery. His skin, once hanging loosely from his bones, began to tighten up, and his coat started to shine. The painful, sad dog we first found in the parking lot started to transform into a healthier, happier dog. It was a miracle to witness his progress.
Ethan’s story is one of resilience, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped him along the way. His journey was far from easy, but thanks to the care, love, and patience of our dedicated team, he now has a second chance at life. Thank God for his recovery, and for all the people who never gave up on him.
