Over a month ago, a call for help echoed from an Alabai dog in desperate need. Despite my hopes for a swift response, no volunteers came forward to offer solace to the suffering canine. As the days passed, Rico’s condition deteriorated, his once strong frame weakened, and his appetite waned.
Time was of the essence, and I feared that intervention might come too late for Rico. Urgency drove me to seek immediate veterinary care, where Rico was named—a moniker befitting his resilience and fortitude.

Rico’s frailty posed challenges for the doctors, who struggled to obtain blood samples for examination. With a diagnosis of megaesophagus—a condition with a slim chance of recovery—we faced an uphill battle. Undeterred, we resolved to fight for Rico’s chance at life.
Treatment began with careful feeding and monitoring, every morsel of food divided into small portions to ease digestion. Vigilance was key—if Rico couldn’t digest his meal within two hours, medical intervention was necessary.

Despite the odds stacked against him, Rico’s progress was nothing short of remarkable. In just one month, he gained over 10 kg, a testament to his unwavering determination to survive. As tests confirmed his improved health, we made the decision to conclude his treatment.
As Rico journeyed home, a newfound vitality surged within him. With each step along the snowy road, he reveled in the simple joys of life—the gentle fall of snowflakes and the promise of a brighter tomorrow. And as he cast a glance back, a radiant smile adorned his face—a poignant reminder of the resilience of the canine spirit and the transformative power of love and compassion.
