Rescued after nearly six days, a dog discarded in the trash by a heartless woman finds hope and compassion.

In a miraculous series of events, a lucky puppy was saved from a terrible fate. The girl who was supposed to be her human mother abandoned her when she moved out, leaving behind a deserving little being that knows how to give love without expecting anything in return. The puppy spent six days all alone before being rescued.

Nathan Binnix, a sanitation employee in Somerset Area, Pennsylvania, found the puppy while emptying a dumpster in 2014. He immediately called the Humane Culture of Westmoreland Region when he noticed something moving inside one of the garbage bags.

The puppy, named Fawna, was severely underweight and could see her ribs. She was taken care of by the Humane Culture, and despite her condition, they believed she would be okay with proper care.

Fawna should have weighed around 50 pounds, but she only weighed about 17 pounds when she was found. She had been deprived of nutrition during the time she was trapped in the trash can for approximately six days.

Before Fawna was rescued, her owner, Nicole Baker, who was identified thanks to her microchip, had apparently moved to Texas. Baker was arrested and charged with animal abuse. She was convicted in 2015, required to pay a penalty, and had to undergo a mental health evaluation.
Thanks to the kind actions of the sanitation employee and the Humane Culture, Fawna was given a second chance at life and was on her way to a much better future.
