Stephanie Medrano, a parent fosterer for Stray Cat Alliance, was informed about an unusual kitten born with a cleft palate and twisted hind legs. The previous owners, unsure how to properly care for him, brought the newborn to the vet but were advised to consider euthanasia due to his slim chance of survival.

Despite the challenges, the previous owners wanted to help the little guy, as he showed a strong will to live and an eagerness to eat. Stephanie was contacted, and Stray Cat Alliance supported the decision to surrender the kitten to her care.

Upon taking the kitten in, Stephanie noticed that his face resembled that of an old person, and she decided to name him ‘Grandpa.’ He was born on 3/20/21, and due to his twisted legs, he was less likely to move around on his own to find his mom’s nipple. He required tube feeding and regular leg massages, as his twisted leg syndrome was caused by short tendons pulling his legs backward.

Despite the slim odds, Stephanie’s dedication and effort, along with Grandpa’s will to survive, seemed to be paying off. He spends much of his time napping and eating regularly, with massages and belly rubs in between. To improve his quality of life, Grandpa will need cleft palate surgery and potentially leg splints in the future.

Recently, after weeks of care, Grandpa finally opened his eyes for the first time ever. Despite facing numerous challenges, the little guy’s spirit shines through, as he just looks ‘so over it,’ living up to his fitting name. Stephanie’s care and love have given this unique kitten a fighting chance for a better life.
