Astonished, the family finds six kittens in a flower box, only to realize that a caring cat had brought them there.

Chantal and her family had been helping community cats in their neighborhood, providing them with food and shelter during harsh winters. One morning, Chantal was outside tending to her garden when she found something unexpected in one of her flower boxes – six kittens huddled up in a fur pile at the bottom. Not far from the flower box, she noticed a stray cat standing, as if guarding the box.

The cat turned out to be the mother of the kittens, and she had brought them to the flower box in search of safety and food. Chantal, who was no stranger to helping neighborhood cats, decided to offer a safer place for the cat and her kittens to stay. She consulted her local animal rescue, Chatons Orphelins Montreal, and offered to foster them until they were ready for adoption.

Chantal brought the kittens inside her home and tried to get the mother cat, named Gerbett, inside as well. The initially wary Gerbett finally came inside when Chantal coaxed her with one of the kittens in her arms. The family of seven was now under a roof, and Gerbett began to warm up to her rescuer and seek affection.

Over the next few weeks, Gerbett raised her six kittens into happy, playful young cats. As her kittens became more independent, Gerbett became more fond of people and sought their attention. She followed her humans around like a cat-dog, chatted with them about her day, and enjoyed playtime.

Now, the kittens are around three months old and ready to find their forever homes. Some of them have already been adopted, and the rest are thriving in foster care. Gerbett, after surviving the streets and raising her litter, has retired from motherhood and is enjoying her new life as a spoiled indoor cat. Her journey from being a stray to a loving mother and now a cherished pet has changed their lives for the better.
