Laura Malope, a director at Mini Cat Town in San Jose, California, was asked to rescue a family of five cats, which included Mars and her four kittens. Despite being well-fed and friendly, the cats showed signs of spending time outside, as their paw pads were dry.
Laura and her team were quick to take in the family and noticed the stunning brown fur of the kittens, half of which had pure brown coats while the other half had white paws and markings on their faces and chests. Additionally, their noses and paw pads were colored in a rosy-brown hue, which may turn black as their mother’s did. This unique appearance sets them apart from other cats.
Encountering cats with chocolate or cinnamon brown fur is uncommon, as they come into existence due to a genetic anomaly in the black color gene. Mars is a prime example of this rare cat breed, with her striking long-haired black coat. Initially, Mars displayed some apprehension upon arriving at her new foster home, but she quickly warmed up once she realized her kittens were safe.
Laura Malope shared that Mars, initially protective of her kittens, grew at ease with her foster family and started to knead and purr while lovingly greeting her human companions. She has been taking excellent care of her kittens, and they are thriving with the love and attention they receive.
The kittens, named Hershey, Reese’s (or Reese), Twix, and Baby Ruth, each have their distinct features. Hershey stands out with a round head, Baby Ruth has almond-shaped eyes and a petite frame, Twix has a distinctive white chin, while Reese has a white mark near her nose and is the most outgoing of the bunch.
